Project Overview

The Transbay Transit Center Proejct in downtown San Francisco will transform transportation in California and stimulate the economy by building the “Grand Central Station of the West.” As the largest approved public transportation project in the country, the $4.2 billion project will replace the current Transbay Terminal at First and Mission streets in San Francisco wit ha modern regional transit hum connecting eight counties in the Bay Area and the State of California through ten transit systems; AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit, Amtrak, Greyhound, MUNI, SamtTrans, WestCat and future High Speed Rail from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

The Transit Center features “City Park,” a 5.4-acre public park that will sit atop the facility and serve as an amenity for the South of Market neighborhood as well as a “green roof” for the transit facility. Furthermore, the project will also create California’s largest transit-friendly neighborhood with 2,600 new homes (with 35% affordable), parks, and a retail main street surrounding the new Transit Center.
